[3@6Amiga-News:
@5Worms sales hit 55,000!!!
Team-17 decide to stay...
This month for a change I bring you mainly good news.
This includes news of 150Mhz Power Amigas, Breathless, A1200 sales
and several other stories.
@6
Blizzard 1230/4:- Last month we reviewed the Blizzard 1230/4.
We have since then found a little niggler with the board, well not#7More>>>
@6
one but three actually. Niggler One- The board was a BUGGER to install
we had to open the 1200 to fit it in! Niggler two- the board is actually
slower than the Apollo boards. Niggler three- We have found that it
has some compatibility problems, this was also stated in a letter from
V12 P.D. We have found the board to be incompatible so far with
Sim City 2000 from Maxis
Protracker 3.10
Alien Breed 3D Demos, but we'll have to try the full game, hope the result
isn't what I think it's going to be!
We'll have more of an update on incompatible
games very soon. Oh and Mr Miles Gordon (Blizzard) is supposed getting
his arse sued for telling little porky pies about the Blizzard running at
9.91 Mips. #7More>>>
@6It doesn't.
@4
Laptop Amigas on the Go!:-
An American company known as Silent P.A.W.S (Portable Amiga Work Station)
has developed laptop Amigas in the following specs:
A600, A1200, A4000 and a A3000 version planned soon.
Before you all start nipping down to your local computer store
you should know that they are only available in the U.S at the moment
and won't appear in the U.K until early to mid summer.
The price is expected to be between 2,000 and 2,600.
The laptops include colour LCD displays which is what has bumped the
price up so much, in fact M.S.C calculated (yes CALCULATED!) that #7More>>>
@4
about 1,800 pounds would be the price punters are paying JUST FOR
THE LCD SCREEN! Which makes the actual Amiga seem like a little
add on to the display.
PAWS advertising campaign is as follows:
For two thousand pounds you get a colour LCD display, Oh and you
get an Amiga as well.
@6
Octamed 6.0 brought out on CD:-
The latest in the Octa-Med range, Med 6 has been brought out on CD,
which means that for 29.95 you receive not only Med, but a huge
range of Med Modules and samples to use with Med.
You also get the chance to try out Teijo Kinnunens new Sound Studio
which is basically a MED 7 only without the 7 or the Med bit (funny#7More>>
@6
enough). Sound Studio is no-where near completion, but it gives you
a vague idea of what's in store for lucky users.
The CD is out now, it can obtained from most P.D libraries which
sell PD CDROMS.
@3Breathless is now available on the Amiga 1200/A4000:-
To run it properly in full screen mode a decent accelerator is required
but don't worry, cos we're giving one away!
We're not really.
#7More>>>
@2Sillyca Saved:-
Silica has been saved, After saving my pocket money for three weeks
I have managed to buy Silica, expect to see some changes soon, such
as the: Amitek Fusion Genlock - renamed:---- Frontier Fun Padlock
Microvitec 1438 - renamed:---- Mc'vities Multi-pack
Yeah, you get the picture.
Rumours are circulating about Silicas new owners Anglo Corporation,
@2
reducing the size of the Amiga part of Silica. Although Jon Anderson
from A.T says this isn't true.
I think he's a liar, take a look at this months CU Amiga (FEB issue)
and look for a Silica advert. There isn't one. #7More>>>
@2
It is a known fact that for years, Silica have always advertised in C.U.
I wonder why they didn't this month? Cutbacks on the Amiga side perhaps?
Surely not, Jonny Boy wouldn't lie to us.... Would he??!?!?!
Also, for those who may have received a Silica brochure lately, check
out the (reduced) Amiga section which states, in large writing may I add,
`AMIGA 1200 16-Bit Computer System'. Must have been written by a PC owner
who knows fuck all about any other computer apart from his beloved PC.
Tw*t. (sorry about the language but it peeves me off SOOOO Much)
@5
Distribution Problems for the Amiga:-
For the past few months there have been problems with Amiga games
distribution because of a company called X (I wasn't allowed to name it)
seem to find it difficult to bring Amiga games to the shops, of #7More>>>
@5
course the Amiga Pirate Associates (you know who you all are) won't have
a problem.
Anyway, I spoke to Gary Williams from Future Zone and our mate Ken
from Online Computers and they have both said the same thing, that is:
The problem with Amiga games is not that they don't sell, quite the
opposite, they DO sell, but we struggle to actually get hold of the
games themselves.
Sounds like a vicious circle to me, people want the games, but can't
get hold of them, therefore resulting in poor sales, which in turn
@5
leads to less distribution effort which then (again) leads to
poorer sales.
Repeat this process and what do you get? #7More>>>
@5
Absolutely crap games sales, No interest in the Amiga platform from
developers....... AND.... therefore........ more P.C owners.
@3Amiga Frontier:-
A shake up within A>F to get rid of lazy gits has seen the departure
of several contributors... So who's out?
OUT: Digriz, Molgrat.
This is not because they do very little, it's because they don't do
ANYTHING.
@3
And that goes for the A.F Megadrive too, that's been booted out!
hah hah haaaaaaah! #7More>>>
@3
Here's a few comments about A.F from our contacts,
readers and various other bods from the Amiga Scene:
M.S.C----------------------- "Bloody amazing"
Converse-------------------- "Good, but not as good as Worms"
Ken from Online------------- "What's it called again?"
Ken from The Disk box P.D--- "The newest disk mag to hit the Amiga.
Although this is only the third issue, it is
@3 catching up fast, to the Grapevine mags in
quality. Loads of reviews & articles
If you are looking for a new mag, then look
no further. The magazine that's going all
the way ...."
#7More>>>
@3Steve V-12--- "A blinding good read for the typical early
stages of disk-mags"
(err, thanx Steve.-Ed)
Andy Gibbers (AGAS) "What a great read it is, here's hoping
that A.F will be very popular"
Bill Gates, Microsoft:-------"Jesus, why didn't I include this magazine
with Windoze 95, .......shit."
@4First batch of A1200s sell out in France:
Yes you read it correctly, the first batch of A1200s which left the
Solectron plant just a few months ago have sold out!
I have been frantically trying to find out how the Amiga has done
over here in the U.K, but as far as I can tell, several computer shops
#7More>>>@4
in our region sold a few. Playstations are the in thing at the moment.
Anyway, P.Cs have stormed the U.K and rightly so, once P.Cs have secured
their place in the market, i.e most people have one, then they will
stay as the `in' computer for a VERY long time due to the fact that
users are willing to upgrade so often that no matter what Amiga, Mac
or Archimedes comes out, whether they be 200Mhz Playstation beaters
or not, people will just buy the upgrades for their P.Cs and within
a few months they will once again have a superior machine.
Although, I will go so far to say that P.Cs are still horrible
machines to use, but I can't say that I won't upgrade to one if I
see it running a decent OS and one which doesn't need configuring every
so often. (like the Amiga). Don't get me wrong I'm not #7More>>>@4
considering a P.C at the moment and won't be for a few years, but if
something good doesn't happen soon then I will be left with no choice and
it won't be an Escom P.C.
Amiga Frontier, one of few things on the Amiga which will never be
seen on a P.C- And that's a fact.
unless we can make a few bob
Now lets see........ Issue 4 on PC CD-ROM, 2 Meg used, 658 free, now
what shall I do with that 658Meg??? Hmm.
See you in next months newsfile when we have news of a P.C Pentium 90
emulator on the ZX81.
